Having great dental health is an important part of life. Dental health not only affects your mouth but recent studies have shown that is also affects your actual health. It is important to have great dental health. If you don’t know how to achieve great dental health here are 5 tips that can help you.

The first important tip for great dental health is to brush your teeth. Brushing your teeth two to three times a day will help you on your way to great dental health. You want to make sure that when you are picking out a toothbrush that you pick a toothbrush with a small head. Picking a toothbrush with a small head with help you to be able to get your toothbrush in the very back of your mouth and make it easier to reach all of those hard to reach places. To also help ensure that you get great dental health you will want to pick toothpaste that has the ADA stamp of approval. ADA stands for American Dental Association. Getting ADA toothpaste helps to get you one step closer to great dental health because the ADA has certain standard that have to be met to ensure safety.

The second important tip for great dental health is to floss daily. Flossing every day helps get you great dental health by making sure that you have gotten as much debris, plaque and any other bacteria that might be lingering around either on your teeth, in between your teeth or on your gums. Also, flossing helps prevent gum diseases. Preventing gum disease is very important in helping get great dental health. In recent research that has been done gum diseases can lead to more serious health problems. When choosing floss you want to make sure to pick floss that is compatible with your teeth and gums. For instance, if you have teeth that are very close together you will probably want to get floss that has a waxed coating. Waxed coating will help the floss glide through your teeth with less difficulty. Having the right kind of floss is important for great dental health.

The third important tip for great dental health is to rinse out your mouth with either water or mouthwash after meals when you can’t brush. Swishing or gargling water or mouthwash after meals will help get rid of debris and other bacteria’s that might be left behind from your meals. You want to help get rid of as much debris and bacteria’s as you can for dental health because it will help decrease the plaque in your mouth. Debris and bacteria cause an acid to form on your teeth that causes plaque and eats away at enamel. If plaque is not removed it can turn to tartar. Once plaque has turned to tartar only a dentist can get it off. So the less plaque you have on your teeth the better.

The fourth important tip for great dental health is to use mouthwash that contains fluoride. Using a fluoride mouthwash will help strengthen the enamel on your teeth. Strengthening the enamel on your teeth is great for dental care because the harder the enamel is on your teeth the tougher it is for plaque to stick and for acid to eat at it.

The fifth important tip for great dental health is to see your dentist on a regular basis. Usually dentists like you to come in every 6 months for a cleaning. Going to the dentist every six months is important for great dental health because they will do a detailed check up of all your teeth. The dentist will also clean off any tartar build up that has occurred. The only way to get tartar off of your teeth is to have your dentist take it off. Your dentist will do a procedure called scaling that takes all of the tartar off of your teeth. Getting all of the tartar off of your teeth is important for great dental health because tartar can cause gum disease.

All of these tips are important tips for great dental health. There are a lot of other ways to achieve great dental health. For more information on great dental health contact your dentist.

Some people might not think about this but maintaining great dental health is extremely important. People do not tend to think that their teeth are that important, but it has been proven that poor dental health is linked to other diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, preterm birth, and low birth weight. Poor dental health often leads to gingivitis, which is an infection of the gums. Gingivitis if left untreated can turn into periodontisis, which can cause bacteria to enter into your bloodstream. Gum diseases are the leading cause of tooth decay. By maintaining good dental health you can help to prevent gum disease.

Another part of good dental health is having strong teeth. Teeth are similar to bones, in order to fully develop they need plenty of calcium, but they also need fluoride, protein, and phosphorus. Only milk and cheese have all four of these vitamins and nutrients naturally. So by eating a slice of cheese or drinking a glass of milk you are helping to maintain strong teeth. Milk and cheese are also known to help prevent gum disease and tooth decay. When we eat bacteria in our mouths turns the food particles into acid, milk and cheese actually stop this process, which helps to prevent tooth decay and works to keep the enamel on our teeth healthy and strong.

Our dental health is also related to our diet and nutrition. Nutrition influences oral cancer and oral infectious diseases. By getting the proper nutrition we can reduce the chances of suffering from these types of dental problems. Dental diseases that can be linked to our diet include developmental defects of enamel and dental erosion

Here are a few tips to help you maintain great dental health.

Tip one:

Brush your teeth at least two times a day with ADA approved fluoride toothpaste. This helps to remove food that might get stuck between teeth or food particles that can led to a build up on the outside of your teeth. Brush your teeth in a circular motion for two to three minutes. Be sure to get both sides of your teeth, as well as the gum line. Holding your toothbrush at a forty-five degree angle helps to ensure you get the bristles below the gums.

Tip two:

Visit your dentist at least once a year. You should have your teeth cleaned semi-annually by a dentist. This helps to remove plaque and tartar that regular brushing and good oral hygiene habits are unable to remove.

Tip three:

Eat a well balanced diet; just like the rest of your body you teeth need certain vitamins and nutrients to stay strong and healthy. Foods that are high in starches and sugar stick to your teeth which increases your plaque build up. Some studies have shown that eating raw vegetables such as carrots and celery help to remove plaque from teeth because they rub against your teeth while you are chewing. Cranberries have also been shown to prevent plaque from sticking to your teeth.

Tip four:

Floss after brushing. When flossing your teeth be sure to rub the floss up and down the front and back of the tooth, as well as flossing between the teeth. If you are not sure of how to floss properly talk to your dentist, they will show you the proper techniques for flossing.

Tip five:

Do not smoke. Smokers are four times as likely to develop advanced gum disease as non-smokers. If you smoke you are depriving your gums of oxygen and nutrients that are needed to have healthy gums.
